A 470L sherry butt from the multi-award-winning Japanese whisky producer, the Ontake Distillery, to be filled for the owner in 2026. Ontake’s sherry-matured whiskies benefit from the use of ex-Solera sherry butts, casks once used in the traditional Solera system of progressively blending younger and older wines. As genuine Solera casks have become increasingly rare, their use gives Ontake’s whiskies added depth and authenticity rarely seen today. Since their first release in 2023, the Ontake Distillery has picked up more than 14 prestigious awards at International whisky competitions around the world, including multiple Gold awards. They have released five official expressions to date. The distillery sits on a luxury estate, high in the Kagoshima mountains, with a stunning view over Kinko Bay and Mt.Sakurajima. The estate, owned by Nishi Shuzo (the distillery founders), includes a luxury restaurant, hotel, onsen and a custom designed 18-hole golf course, all of which are reserved exclusively for cask owners and their friends and family. By purchasing a cask of new make, owners achieve an estimated cost per bottle equivalent to approximately 23% of the current retail value of Ontake whisky at age three. Bottling and labelling, including bespoke label designs, are included in the purchase price along with five years storage and insurance.
